About This GardenThe North Buckhead Civic Association created this native plant education garden in partnership with Sarah Smith Elementary School. Our mission is to provide a living classroom where students can discover the vital role native plants play in our local ecosystem, while also inspiring neighbors to bring these same benefits to their own yards. Every plant you see here has been growing wild in Georgia for thousands of years. These species have evolved alongside our local insects, birds, and wildlife, creating interconnected relationships that sustain our entire ecological community. When we choose native plants, we're not just gardening—we're restoring habitat and supporting the web of life that makes our neighborhood thrive. Wildlife HavenNative plants provide essential food and shelter for bees, butterflies, songbirds, and countless other creatures that depend on these plants to survive. Water & Soil HealthDeep root systems stabilize soil, prevent erosion, and naturally filter rainwater before it reaches our creeks and streams. Low MaintenanceAdapted to Georgia's climate, these plants thrive with minimal watering, no fertilizers, and naturally resist local pests and diseases. Climate ResilienceNative plants help cool our neighborhoods, sequester carbon, and create resilient landscapes that can withstand our changing climate. |
